We endeavor to practice following closely the teachings and guidance of one who attained enlightenment. In this tradition, there is no guru. The Buddha taught the practice, but each one of us must gain our own wisdom through experience.

His instructions were clear:  develop your awareness and be equanimous while living a life without harm to yourself or others.

There are 246 Vipassana meditation centers and 146 non-center Vipassana sites throughout the world.  The Northern California Vipassana Center is near Clear Lake, 116 miles from Chico.  There are two other centers in central and southern California.

The basic meditation course is 10 days of guidance and practice in developing concentration, awareness, and equanimity.  Accommodations and simple, nutritious vegetarian food are provided.  There is never any charge.  Old students contribute to keeping the centers running through their service and donations.

In order to keep developing their practice, many students take additional courses from year to year.  When one is ready, longer courses of 20, 30, 45, and 60 days are available.
